I'm guessing we are one with Armok, Armok is with us. No one knows exactly who he, she, or it is, though guesses range from us players to some unseen force running around behind the scenes. You might be asking, "why is it called that?" Well, unnamed viewers, in Dwarf Fortress lore, Armok is the god of blood, who sets all worlds in motion in order to bask in the glorious chaos that runs rampant through them. I found a nifty tile set (The Meph Set: ) that makes it look less like a migraine for other players (I still mainly play with the ASCII tiles, but sometimes it's fun to look at other ones) and loaded up a tool I've known for a while called Armok Vision. There's going to be a big new release soon, and in the shadow of that, I wanted to give the game another go. It's in long-term alpha, with estimates of twenty years or death of the developer for its estimated finishing time. I've been playing it on and off ever since, and even in my off times, I'm still reading about peoples' fortresses and the development of the game.

I had my usual resistance, but over a month or two curiosity won out and I looked it up. At first I thought it was one of those really old games, from back when ASCII tiles were state of the art graphics, but it's only been around for 11 years. So five or six years ago I kept running into references to a game called Dwarf Fortress.
